Pesca de tubarões! /Shark Fishin´!

W: one of our team members, and probably one of the best divers i have met until today. Swills like a fish, breathes with some sort of gills and knows all about OC, EAN and Rebreathers, well..dive = W
He was the one with the Kuda bait on the end of his shaft!

Getting the job done fast = B, our "fly-diver"! (Goes down so fast and working underwater is what he knows best! Also an amazing diver, no BS, simply goes down and does it!

A pesca com anzol é necessária para a colocação de transmissores internos e externos que permitiram seguir e analisar os percursos destes animais.

Antes de se iniciar, um dos mergulhadores captura uma barracuda nas redondezas do local de estudo e depois é colocado um "filete" no anzol; de seguida o mergulhador transportará o "filete" na ponta do seu arpão de forma a poder entregar este acepipe ao tubarão pretendido.

De seguida, felizmente utilizam-se carretos eléctricos para a elevação do especimen até ao barco, onde se iniciam os trabalhos.



Hook and Line are required to capture sharks in order to deploy internal and external transmitters; these will allow us to gather data on their behaviour afterwards.

For this, one of the divers goes down on the spot and captures a "Kuda" for bait;
after that, a "fillet" is placed on the hook and a diver will take it up and close to a nearby Shark; Faster than long lining with the benefit of low injuries or fatalities.
Fortunately electric reels will be used to pull the specimen up to the boat where the placing of the transmitters takes place.

Jan 27 - Capt "F!..UP"

No dia 27 de Janeiro, tivemos a colaboração de uma embarcação externa para nos levar a algun s dos locais de estudo; o trabalho tinha corrido melhor do que nunca, bastante precisão acabando num mergulho praticamente nocturno.
Como é possivel ver na imagem, a satisfação reflectia-se nos sorrisos dos membros da equipa...
Na entrada do porto-de-Abrigo, infelizmente o auto-designado "Captain X (melhor dizendo:F!UP!" decide fazer a abordagem errada contrariamente ao aviso de vários que conhecem esta zona, entrando pelo lado Norte para poupar tempo; a mulher pelos vistos tinha telefonado e o homem estava com pressa...ainda por cima este "Captain...F..!" era relativamente novo neste emprego, uma vez que o verdadeiro dono da embarcação tinha-nos acompanhado nos mergulhos e portanto não estava ao leme..
O resultado desta má abordagem segue-se no esquema abaixo, sem qualquer tipo de exagero.
Escusado será dizer que houve perda de material que voou borda fora.. e os pormenores ficarão na memória e não no blog.
Esta proeza nunca tinha sido presenciada por nenhum dos membros da nossa equipa, incluindo 1 deles com 20 anos de serviço na Marinha Mercante.

On Jan 27, we had an offer too use another vessel for our work; closer to the spots we needed to work on and free of charge.
So we toke it, and it happened to be one of the most successful days of our dive work; our team was cheerful with the results as shown on the photo above. The last dive ended up almost as a night dive, and then we headed to shore.
The self-proclaimed "Capt X" (better said, F!UP!) rushed into the harbour, since his wife had called him over the phone; the Sea was high, and this Cap F!UP! decided to find it´s way by the North side, unlike several advices given at that time...And the result was the one we can see on that drawing down there; 60º at minimum, gear flying over board,..and further details will be kept out of this blog, and well kept in my memory.
The Capt F!UP!, was apparently new on the job, and fortunatly the boat owner toke the weel at the last moment..
Just 2 give you an idea, nome of our team members had ever experience something like that, not even 1 who´s been on the Merchant Navy for 20 years.

é isso mesmo; uma sátira aos locais; (Sul EUA); pesca com dinamite... Para quem não sabe o que representa a expressão "Redneck", aqui fica:
Sentido pejurativo, referente a um certo tipo de pessoas, normalmente se pode designar como "labrego", ou pior; por outro lado dependendo do contexto, pode ser motivo de orgulho uma vez que se identifica com um estilo de vida diferente da maioria das pessoas.
