Tubarões e TV/Sharks and Media Coverage

Neos ultimos tempos, para além do trabalho habitual de localização e captura de tub´s, tivemos 2 equipas de TV a acompanhar o nosso trabalho.
Neste caso concreto, não possuiam rebreathers, e portanto o silêncio que estas máquinas proporcionam não pode ser utilizado, uma vez que os reporteres eram "bubble makers", mas acima de tudo, extremamente interessados.

Well these last days we had 2 different tv crews covering our work; on this post, we have the first team that went down with us.
Although their divers weren´t rebreather certified (what it seems to be a must to aproach sharks) they where highly interested on the project.


Mostrando à equipa de filmagem dentes dos "nossos" tub´s bem como de tub´s-touro; sinal da sua passagem e frequênca no local.
Shark teeth on the bottom; Lemons and Bull´s; a sign that we where on the right places where these species usual visitors.
Atraindo os tubarões, capturando peixe no fundo; para além disso, uma caixa com restos de barracuda é colocada no fundo para atrair os tubarões, convidando-os a aproximarem-se do local.

Basicamente, usamos em regra duas embarcações; uma com os mergulhadores que fazem o reconhecimento dos locais , de forma a poderem assinalar a presência ou ausência da espécie pretendida, e uma segunda, onde como se poderá ver na foto em baixo, está equipada para trazer os tub´s para a superfície, e iniciar os trabalhos de implantação cirurgica de transmissores, marcação, medições, etc.


Usually we need to vessels; one works as as recon unit (divers boat), and the other is fully equipped to bring the Shars topside and cirurgical implant transmitters, tagging, mesuring, etc.

The divers go through several spots and several bounces in order to determine if "our" sharks are inbound or not; if there´s positive confirmation by the divers that our Lemons are down there, the second boat get´s set to capture the Sharks by hook and reel and then do the propper procedures that will enable us to know where the Lemons go after the aggregations, and establish several other details regarding our project.
